Small on purpose.
Wren House opened in 2009 in a Victorian house with a long garden. We have stayed one nursery, on one site, so that we never lose track of a single child.
Started by a mum who could not find the right place.
Hannah was an early years teacher looking for a nursery for her own daughter. She wanted somewhere small, with real food, a proper garden and adults who stayed. She could not find it, so with two colleagues she opened one.
Fifteen years on, Hannah still does the morning door. Three of our team once came here as children.
What we believe.
Play comes first
Children learn to count by sharing out the spoons and to write by drawing treasure maps. We plan around what they are curious about.
Outside every day
Rain, shine or snow. We have waterproofs in every size and a garden with a mud kitchen, a digging patch and a hill to roll down.
Real food
Cooked from scratch each morning, eaten together at the table, with seconds. Children help grow the herbs and bake on Fridays.
A key person for every child
One adult who knows your child's routines, comforts and jokes, and who you can always talk to.
Parents as partners
You know your child best. We share what we see, ask what you see, and plan next steps together each term.
Safe and sound
Every adult is vetted and trained in safeguarding and paediatric first aid. The front door is always answered by a member of staff.
People who stay.
Young children need the same faces every day. Most of our team have been here for more than five years.

Inspected and registered.
We follow the early years framework and are inspected like every registered nursery. Our latest report is on the parents page.

Come and play.
Nothing tells you more than an hour in the garden with us. Bring your little one, and wellies.
